Third year of the Lozer Cup is scheduled

for the summer of 2009 on the Deerfield River, just up the road from the outdoor center of Charlemont, Massachusetts; home of Zoar Outdoor (whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, biking, fly fishing) and Berkshire East (skiing, snowboarding)

www.LozerCup.com is the main page of the website, but most people will end up using the calendar pages as a way to check both the dryway and fife section release schedules.

Teddy Bears indicate Fife releases
Skull and bones are for the Monroe Bridge releases
Trophy Cup shows that a Lozer Cup race is happening on that Sunday (at noon)

Hopefully I can move up in ranking instead of down. (I know, what else is a Lozer to do?)
In the 2007 overall results I was in second place.
In the 2008 overall results I dropped to being tied for third.
In my defence (a.k.a. all my excuses) the competition drew more skilled paddlers last year, more people were trained up, and I participated in fewer events.

St. Louis MO: The next whitewater frontier?

http://stlriverproject.blogspot.com/

I have started a blog that will follow my progress in The Chain of Rocks River Project. Now, whitewater in the mid-west has been a black hole in the minds of most kayakers. But, I am spearheading a project that sets out to change that fact. Check out the blog, send me your thoughts, props, suggestions etc. I want to involve a large community in this because it will eventually affect a large community. Imagine, a world class river park with everything from small practice features, to 10 foot standing surf waves all at a park and play location. Imagine, a crumbling section of St. Louis, revitalized by a new source of revineau.

These are the visions of a successful Chain of Rocks River Project. Check it out.

Smooth Ledge, Rapid River, Maine

I met up with a couple of my friends in Errol, NH on Friday night and we hiked into Smooth Ledge on the Rapid River in Maine on Saturday.

It's a nice place for park and play with a long runout, warm water, and smooth rock ledges to sun, socialize, and generally hang out for the day.

Here's Jeff Marquis sliding into Smooth Ledge for a bit of surfing action.

Look at Pat "mayor" Taft ripping it up with his hand paddles.

Smooth Ledge is a really friendly hole at 1300 with a good shoulder for surfing and a nice pocket for throwing down.

We ran into alot of local rippers, including Maine-native Chuck Mathieu.

I did put the camera down and jump into my boat for a few sessions too.

When the spot got a little crowded around lunch time we took inspiration from the cruisers and made the easy hike up a dirt road to the top of the three pitches. (then of course we went right back to surfing one of the best park and play features in the New England)
